Firefighters risk their lives for the safety of our communities. While others run to escape the danger of a fire, firefighters put themselves in harms way to rescue lives and contain damage. Although skilled and usually successful in their mission, a firefighter’s heroics may unfortunately result in burn injury. Burn care requires specialized skills and technology which doesn’t always receive priority amidst competing health care costs. The Hook & Ladder Firefighter Burn Foundation provides needed funding to ensure that burned firefighters receive the best possible treatment and care available.
Mission
The Hook & Ladder Firefighter Burn Foundation’s purpose is to support firefighters by improving care, treatment and the quality of life for burned firefighters and other burn survivors. It accomplishes this by supporting firefighter burn foundations and/or hospital burn centers serving the local regions where Hook & Ladder Brewing Company products are sold. Its goal is to eventually serve every firefighter in the United State by improving burn care services throughout the entire country.
Primary areas funded include: new equipment for burn units; clinical research studies for burn treatments; educational opportunities to improve burn care; and direct support of burned firefighters and their families. Supported projects and programs also benefit non-firefighter burn survivors; however, the foundation’s first concern is to ensure that the best care is available to serve those who serve us through their hard work and dedication to keep our communities safe.
The foundation does not allow recipients to use donations for administrative costs, salaries, or general operation expenses.
Guiding Principles
Five guiding principles define how the Hook & Ladder Firefighter Burn Foundation fulfills its mission to support local firefighters in the regions where Hook & Ladder Brewing Company products are sold.
- Connections strengthen impact
Donations are kept local. The Foundation connects donations received from individuals purchases with the firefighter burn foundation and/or hospital burn center servicing their community.
- Focus ensures formidable results
The Foundation believes that commitment to a clearly defined objective better serves firefighters than providing general support for a wide scope of needs. Through consistent quarterly donations to its recipients it hopes to strengthen and advance the services they provide to firefighters and other burn patients.
- Diversity breeds creativity
By engaging with firefighters, establishments and communities throughout the regions it serves, the Foundation continually enhances its donation practices. Through regular spontaneous and deliberate interaction with its stakeholders, it continually seeks ways to improve and expand its services by incorporating its stakeholders’ wealth of knowledge and experiences.
- Transparency nurtures honesty and trust
Openness about its giving practices ensures accountability for the donations it collects and transfers to burn foundations and burn centers. The Foundation is committed to provide clear and accurate information about the contributions it receives and distributes throughout the regions it serves.
- Achievement is increased through long term commitments
The Foundation’s commitment to its recipients remains for as long as it is in existence and the recipient continues to align with the Foundation’s mission. By developing long term commitments with its recipients, the Foundation can be more effective in responding to the immediate and long terms needs of burned firefighters.
